The battery works great. I was disappointed that the battery sticks out past the computer.

The battery works fine with my Dell Inspiron 1720 and was reasonably priced. We'll see how it holds up over time.
The battery came with 2.25% Wear Level according to my BatteryCare utility (got it free online somewhere). The instructions said I should go through an annoying, time consuming ritual of discharging and recharging the battery to bring it up to full capacity. This sounded plausible as I've heard that batteries may need this to reach their full capacity, owing to various chemical effects. However, going through this ritual 4 times did not increase my battery capacity at all. I adopted a usage pattern of fully discharging and fully recharging the battery, thinking this might accomplish whatever was supposed to be accomplished. But after 3 weeks of doing this my battery shows 3.5% Wear Level. I'm thinking these full discharge cycles are actually a bad idea. I don't know much about Lithium-Ion batteries, but with a Lead-Acid battery, you're definitely better off discharging as little as possible of the battery's capacity before charging again. I think I will resume my previous "keep plugged into a wall if I can" habit and see how it goes. After 3 years of doing that, my previous Dell branded battery was at 75% Wear Level, which is why I bought this new non-Dell one.
